Jean Aitken
Jean moved to Kinlochleven after twenty years in the Middle East. Here the magnificent views and the seasonal colours of the trees made a big impression. Trees became a particular interest and from that grew a love of wood. It was only a matter of time before wood turning became a hobby. “Turning a piece of wood is like opening a surprise parcel – unsure what it will materialize”.
Most of the wood used for the turnings is sourced locally and dried naturally – oak, ash, beech, sycamore and birch to name a few. Jean carves on each base the name of the wood and her own signature mark – a Scottish midge!
