Irvine
Russell was born in Paisley in 1938, the son of
Paisley artist John Russell. From an initial interest in
art through a local art club he began to paint more
seriously in oils in the mid 1960s. In due course he
graduated to watercolours, which have remained his
preferred medium.
Mainly self taught, Irvine has studied at the Glasgow
School of Art and claims his artistic influence from the
work of his father. His subjects are landscapes and
rural townscapes, depicting harbours and villages around
Scotland. Irvines work is in a private collections in
Britain and abroad.
