Calum MacFarlane-Barrow was born and brought up in the Highlands of Scotland and in fact has never lived anywhere else!  From his early childhood he has always been fascinated with the sea and its ever-changing moods.  He also has a great appreciation of the Scottish mountain scenery and his greatest delight is tramping the hills or climbing "munros" (hills over 3000 ft)

Only recently has he found time to take up painting seriously and has begun exhibiting throughout Scotland and south of the border.  Nearly all his work, whether in oils or acrylics, is done by knife- stemming from an impromptu lesson given by the late Sir Kyffin Williams, the Welsh artist, in 1965.
