JoLoMo
(John Lowrie
Morrisson) was born
in Glasgow in 1948. John attended the Glasgow School of Art gaining his diploma in
1971.
In 1969 he worked for a summer at Templetons Carpets
Glasgow, where he met his wife Maureen, designing Norsk
rugs, and learning colour balance and colour mixing. He won a travelling scholarship from the Royal Academy, London in 1971,
working mainly around the Drymen area developing in
particular the use of the colour blue, which is now the
trademark of a JOLOMO painting. He now lives in
Tayviallich and
paints in the West Coast of Scotland. In 1985 he began signing
paintings with JOLOMO, invented back in 1962 in a
Latin class!
In 1987 he began teaching at Lochgilphead High School,
and became heavily involved with the Scottish
Examination Board. In November 1997 John
severed all Education links to paint full time.
Since then he has appeared in several TV programmes,
films and published several books.
He describes his work as "expressionism
influenced by Van Gogh". His work is in many public and private collections,
including Madonna.
